Global Peace Hut Board of Directors
Marg Huber,
President
Marg has been actively involved in the field of conflict resolution and
mediation over the past 25 years as an instructor, facilitator,
researcher, mediator, senior administrator and director of training. For 8
years she directed the Centre of Conflict Resolution at the Justice
Institute of BC. She has developed training manuals, courses and programs
in conflict resolution and peacemaking for intercultural applications
working extensively within the multicultural community in the Lower
Mainland of BC Canada and for many First Nations organizations and bands
in Canada. She has mediated a wide range of cases in family, school, and
other community settings and organizations. Over the past 11 years, she
has provided conflict resolution training and program development
consultation internationally (Malaysia, Israel, Jordan, South Africa), and
for the past 5 years has worked in East Africa developing conflict
resolution and peacemaking programs and training teams - in Uganda, South
Sudan, Rwanda.
Ted Kuntz, Vice President
Ted is a psychotherapist in private practice in Coquitlam. He is also an
author, workshop facilitator, and consultant. Ted is actively involved in
his community especially in areas related to disability, inclusion, and
social justice. He sits on many Boards and Advisory Committees related to
these areas.
Shashi Assanand, Treasurer
Shashi is a registered Social Worker who has worked with the Immigrant
communities in the Lower Mainland of BC for the past 30 years. She is the
Founder and Executive Director of the Vancouver & Lower Mainland
Multicultural Family Support Services Society, an organization funded to
help Immigrant & Visible Minority Women and their families that face
domestic violence. The organization provides services in 24 languages. She
has extensive counselling and advocacy experience in working with
immigrants and refugees (families, youth and women) and is a trained and
experienced mediator in family and community disputes. Shashi is very
actively involved in the areas of Multiculturalism and women’s issues,
locally, provincially and nationally. She was born in Uganda.
Edith Warner, Secretary
Edith brings to Global Peace Hut a strong business background with 30+
years of management in sales and marketing as well as strong presentation,
computer, analytical and organization skills. She ran her own sales and
marketing agency for 10+ years. Currently she works as a visual artist.
She has been the President and Vice President of the North Shore Artists'
Guild.
Moussa Magassa
Moussa currently works as Program Coordinator with Immigrant Services
Society of BC (ISS)an immigrants and refugees serving agency in BC. His
duties include among others to coordinate and promote social integration
and adaptation programs for refugees and immigrants in Canada. Before
immigrating to Canada, Moussa worked in the demilitarization field in
post-Apartheid South Africa, specializing in conflict analysis/
resolution, non-violence peace education and curriculum design. He has
extensive experience designing and training young adults in alternatives
to violence skills. Moussa also works as a consultant with his firm,
Hille-Magassa & Associates, for different community agencies. He develops
and facilitates training workshops on multiculturalism and diversity;
anti-racism and cross-cultural communication; understanding and resolving
conflict among immigrants and refugees; and human rights. Moussa was born
in Senegal (West Africa) and speaks 6 languages in addition to English and
French.
Daphne McLean
Daphne McLean has been a social worker in Vancouver for over 20 years,
before starting a second career in real estate, and over the past 10 years
she has enjoyed her third career as an artist. She is a member of the
North Vancouver Community Arts Council, the Federation of Canadian
Artists, the Second Story Artist Group and the West Vancouver Sketch Club,
has frequent gallery shows, the most recent of which focused on Africa.
Woldy Soznowsky
Woldy has been a teacher, counsellor and administrator: in the North
Vancouver School Board over the past 31 years, specializing in at risk
youth recently retiring as the Principal of Keith Lynn Alternate School in
NV. He is an advisor/ Board Member of KLASS Association for At Risk Youth,
a member of the North Shore Task Force for Substance Abuse, previous Board
member of the North Shore Restorative Justice Society, in addition to his
many responsibiities as Father, Grandpa and Sailor. He also worked briefly
in Uganda on conflict resolution training for educators with Global Peace
Hut.
Barry Stuart
Barry is a lawyer in private practice, and over his 35 year career has
been a Law Professor, Government Policy Analyst, Government Social
Planner, Constitutional Advisor, Chief Judge, Chief Land Claims
Negotiator, Mediator, Trainer in conflict resolution and Consultant
working in conflict, organizational change and governance. Currently with
CSE Group and Adjunct Professor, Criminology at the Centre for Dialogue,
Simon Fraser University. |
